The initial approach involved enhancements to the SAP Hybris Marketing tool to correct a situation that was directly impacting the client’s business. When sending mailings and newsletters to different users, the company was experiencing many bounces (rejection of messages by the email servers). This generated, as a consequence, a bad reputation with the mail servers of different providers. The e-mails reached SPAM because of this bad reputation. One of the company’s main sales channels was being affected.
Technically it was something that the client did not know how to solve and so far no provider had been able to give them a solution that responded 100% to the problem and in the time they requested.
What did they need? To identify the causes of email bounces in order to improve their reputation with email providers. This information was not available so far from Hybris Marketing.
The solution
One of the purposes of the Hybris Marketing platform is to determine a target group of people to target with a marketing action. That group is determined by a series of filters associated with your general customer base. In the segmentation application where the filters are made, we sought to make attributes available to identify what was happening with customers who were experiencing email bounces.
To improve reputation we started by analyzing the causes of bounces on the different mail servers using the codes that provided the bounces.
The client requested a series of requirements associated with the problem: to be able to have the cause of the bounces, all the technical details associated with them, and that these data could be used both in segmentation and in the export of information to other systems.
In addition, they asked to have 3 or 4 associated actions, such as the reclassification of e-mails (by type of error), to be able to manually analyze some mail and to have an update of permissions for sending e-mails depending on whether the user marked SPAM.
In conclusion, by developing a data flow using SAP Cloud Platform Integration we made available attributes to run a more intelligent analysis of bounces, and created a flow that is continuously feeding that data. By making all that information available, the company was able to make better decisions for more efficient communication.
From now on, if a customer marks any of the communications received as SPAM, SAP Marketing can store this information and define new actions. For example, reaching the customer by another means, so as not to affect the reputation.[:]
